Artem Lobov is fresh off a unanimous decision win over Paulie Malignaggi in a bare-knuckle boxing match for Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship(BKFC), and now he’s eyeing his next bout.
And it could come against another pro boxer.
According to BRAVE FC president Mohammed Shahid, he would love to stage the boxing match under his promotion, perhaps later next year.
“Artem Lobov v Amir Khan in a boxing match is something that we would be interested in,” Shadid said in an interview with Bloody Elbow.
“John Kavanagh wanted that bout in BRAVE CF so we are prepared to talk about it. If we can work with both sides, this could happen although there are other options for Lobov out there.”
“I’d like to see him take on any boxer at the top level but no talks have happened yet. Lobov will be in attendance on July 25th so discussions may begin then.”
Prior to leaving UFC last year, Lobov had long expressed his desire to box professional. And now that he is no longer tied down to the stringing contract from UFC, he is free to bounce around from one place to another.
Of course, facing Malignaggi and Khan are two different things. Prior to his fight against Lobov, it had been a few years since Paulie had announced his retirement.
Khan, however, is still an active fighter, as he most recently won the WBC international welterweight title a fee weeks ago via technical knockout.
So while it’s admirable for Lobov to want to test his skill against the best, facing a world champion boxer like Khan may not be the best of things to wish for at the moment.
Then again, if his best friend Conor McGregor fared well in a boxing match against Floyd Mayweather, then who can knock Lobov’s confidence against Khan?
