Long before Conor McGregor burst onto the UFC scene and took over the MMA world, there were other stars who carried UFC into the powerhouse it is today.
In fact, the first man to be a major superstar for the promotion was Chuck Liddell, the former Light Heavyweight champion of the world.
Chuck was the prime MMA fighter in the sport, knocking people out left and right, while helping break the sport into the mainstream.
He also collected the biggest paychecks at the time.
In 2008, Conor has just started his pro MMA career in Ireland while, Chuck was still one of the biggest names in the game.
That’s when McGregor — who was unknown at the time — ran into Chuck and took a photo that caught Chuck off guard.
Twelve years later, Liddell is no longer fighting and Conor is at top of the game, winning multiple world titles and setting record paydays.
So when McGregor made his long-awaited return to action at UFC 246 a few weeks ago, the world was eager to see “Notorious.
Among them was Liddell, who was front row and center to see Conor during the weigh-ins.
Thankfully, a photographer caught the epic photo that shows just how much has changed during that time, and a young up-and-comer turned into a mega-star who is now admired by the man he once idolized.
Thank you @ChuckLiddell!
Your work inside the UFC’s famed Octagon inspired me to chase my own fighting dreams, and for that I am forever grateful to you!
