UFC president Dana White has already stated that Conor McGregor will get the next title shot at Lightweight.

Assuming he gets though Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 on Jan. 18, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada, that is.

But “Notorious” could be in line for a title fight sooner, rather than later, if White’s recent comments hold true.

According to the brash head honcho, Conor is willing to step in and face Khabib Nurmagomedov or Tony Ferguson at UC 249 if either of them get injured.

“Conor wants to fight three times this year,” UFC President Dana White told ESPN (transcribed by Adam Martin).

“He’s hoping that if he beats Cowboy, he can turn right around and fight Khabib, but that timing and math isn’t going to work out. But you know Conor. Conor thinks the way Conor thinks.”

“His thing is, I’ll fight Cowboy, I’ll beat Cowboy, and I’ll be ready to fight Khabib at 155 if anything happens, because we’re going into Khabib-Tony again.”

“So Conor would be ready for that fight.”

And it could very well happen as the fight between Khabib and Tony has been booked four times prior, and they all fell through.

That means the chances of McGregor actually getting a title shot in April are very realistic.

Of course, he has to get through “Cowboy,” first.
