Khabib Nurmagomedov will defend his Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Lightweight title against Dustin Poirier on September 6, 2019 at UFC 242 in Abu Dhabi.
While a big fight, don’t expect many A-list celebrities to be sitting cageside, as it it unlikely anyone will make the long trip to see the fight.
However, there may be one big name showing up and crashing the event, as UFC president Dana White recently stated that he won’t be too surprised if Conor McGregor shows up.
“He could, probably, show up to that fight,” White told ESPN. “I honestly believe that in that region they like Conor McGregor, too,” he added.
“I know they take things a little serious when stuff is said but Khabib won the fight.”
“And I think it’s all just trash talk leading up to. Obviously Khabib and Conor, there’s no love lost. Those guys do not like each other. But it’s part of the business. I would have no problem with Conor showing up there.”
So why would Conor make the trip to Abu Dhabi?
It’s simple: Conor is desperately trying to get a rematch with Khabib after losing to him at UFC 229. And if “The Eagle” wins, it isn’t out of the stretch of imagination that McGregor would make a scene in order to draw more interest.
And we all know “Notorious” can draw attention to himself like no other.
Should that be the case, it would be hard-pressed to see UFC go ahead with its original plan to give Tony Ferguson the next title fight.
Because as we have seen in the past, Dana White isn’t opposed to change his mind at the flip of a switch.
