Since announcing his shock retirement from mixed martial arts (MMA) a few weeks ago, Conor McGregor hasn’t been heard from since.
Indeed, the former UFC champ-champ seems to be serious this time around after calling it quits two times before.
Now, UFC president Dana White is once again chiming in, saying that if Conor really is done, he wont bother calling him for a UFC return.
“He’s retired,” White said at the UFC on ESPN 11 press conference. “I just did another interview where people are asking me about other retired guys. These guys are retired. I’m not even thinking about any of those guys. They’re retired. There are so many kids right now that are here, that want to fight. Those are the people that I’m focused on.”
“Conor McGregor is retired. I don’t chase guys that don’t want to fight. I don’t chase guys. We offer guys three fights a year. You get three fights a year, if you don’t want to fight, I’ve got a roster full of people who want to fight.”
The biggest money-maker in the game can easily walk away and never look back thanks to all the money he has made.
Still, when he made his return in 2020 against Donald Cerrone, he had a master plan to fight at least three or four times.
Unfortunately, COVID_19 put a halt to those plans.
But now that UFC is back at it again, and with UFC Fight Island in place, McGregor’s retirement hit a bit harder, as many felt he would still complete his 2020 goals.
We still have six months remaining in the year, so time will tell.
