Earlier this week, UFC president Dana White stated that he would be giving Conor McGregor a shot at the Lightweight title.
Assuming Conor beats Donald Cerrone and Khabib Nurmagomedov defeats Tony Ferguson. Naturally, Justin Gaethje was upset and took to social media to vent.

Upon hearing of the backlash from fans, fighters and media, Dana White defended his statements.
“C’mon guys, look what Conor’s done over the last however many years,” White told ESPN.
“Then he loses to Khabib in a fight that was – when you talk about bad blood – it’s like the next level of bad blood. Gaethje was on his way up, too.”
“We’ve offered Gaethje a lot of fights that Gaethje hasn’t taken, either. So Conor’s in line next for (a title) fight if he beats ‘Cowboy.’”
In short, Conor is big business and UFC is all about the big show, which means the rest of the roster has to toe the line.
I asked Dana White today why Conor McGregor beating Donald Cerrone at 170 pounds, would jump him ahead of Justin Gaethje at 155 pounds. Here is his answer, full conversation on this topic here https://t.co/ukj5uZ7t1l. pic.twitter.com/jVfgtyly4T

That said, none of this is a lock if “Notorious” can’t wrangle in “Cowboy” on Jan. 18.
