UFC president Dana White has his own take as to why Conor McGregor decided to go on a social media outburst a few weeks ago.
According to his comments to Sports Illustrated, White seems to think McGregor has a pattern of trying to steal other fighter’s thunder prior to their big fight.
And since Israel Adesanya was set to defend his middleweight title at UFC 253 the week during Conor’s tweet storm, it was time.
Indeed, McGregor announced a boxing match again Manny Pacquiao, a charity match against Dustin Poirier and beef between he and Dana White.
“This was a weird one,” White said. “This was weirder and different than anything he’s done before. There’s almost a pattern here. When we’re about to do a massive fight — and Israel Adesanya broke a ton of records last week in a global, massive fight — the day before that fight, he starts announcing he’s going to fight this guy and that guy.
“It’s almost like stealing Adesanya’s thunder,” he continued. “But, he does it every time there’s a big fight.”
Of course, McGregor has no need to steal anyone’s thunder, since he has plenty of his own and then some.
Furthermore, he and Adesanya have the same management team, so White may be reaching with this one.
