For all intents and purposes, Conor McGregor is retired.
The former UFC champ-champ dropped the bombshell of a news nugget earlier this year. Which caught many by surprise as “Notorious” had declared he intended to fight three times in 2020.
Then, COVID-19 happened and all sports were put on a standstill.
But even after UFC starting business back up again, McGregor stuck to his guns and vowed to never fight again.
But according to UFC president Dana White, he knows Conor will come back this year. And since he is super rich, he is no hurry and he has the option to pick who he fights.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and wanted to fight somebody next year after all these different fights play out,” White told Colin Cowherd.
“What’s going on with Conor McGregor is what goes on with all professional fighters when they become extremely wealthy and Conor McGregor is rich. He gets to pick and choose what he wants to do now and he’s at that point in his career where he’s got a few fights left.”
One thing that won’t happen, however, is White begging Conor to return.
McGregor knocked out Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 earlier this year.
After Jorge Masvidal came up short against Kamaru Usman at UFC 251, chatter started about potentially pairing up “Notorious” against “Gamebred.”
there is always the option for McGregor to wait to see how Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Justin Geathje plays out.
But after Khabib’s father passed away, that fight has been put on hold.
