Conor McGregor, Former UFC 155-pound titleholder, wants to go up against Frankie Edgar to test himself. Frankie is considered to be a legand just as much as Conor is, and his fighting style is similar to that of Khabib Nurmagomedov, which is why Conor feels this fight would be worth it for him.
Edgar is also keen on the fight, he even says he’s willing to drop is bantamweight so that he can fight the “thorn” who’s been in his side for many years.
“You know I’m down to fight [McGregor] it should have happened a long time ago. I know I’m going down to bantamweight but for you, any weight class will do. Any time, any weight class, you know I’m game.”
Conor, speaking to Ariel Helwani of Edgars dangerous style of offense: “He runs on the back foot and shoots on the single legI want these sort of similar bouts. Even though he lost to Max [Holloway] in a very close bout, I don’t care. Wins and losses don’t matter in this game. It’s the stories we are all on and the journeys we are all on.”
As exciting as this all sounds, we may never see this happen, since McGregor is always retiring and then “back” again. Not to mention UFC being able to book an opponent for Conor that will be much more lucrative.
