Conor McGregor is finally set to make his much-anticipated return to mixed martial arts (MMA).
According to “Notorious” himself, he will be climbing back into the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Octagon on January 18, 2020 inside T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I would like to announce the return of ‘The Notorious’ Conor McGregor will take place on January 18th in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada,” McGregor said during his Moscow press conference on Thursday. “So, that is my comeback fight, it’s 12 weeks this Saturday. I’m in prime physical condition, I’ve agreed the date with the company.”
As for who he will be facing, Conor didn’t spill the beans and pleaded with reporters to ask UFC for the name if they wanted to know.
“As far as the opponent, I have the opponent’s name, but for me and the game that I’m in, and from experience, if I was to give you people the name — which I would love to do — I know the UFC would flip it because they are a crafty company,” McGregor continued.
“For me, here’s this one, ask the UFC who the opponent is because I do not give a fuck who the opponent is.”
According to UFC insider Ariel Helwani, the front-runner to land the fight is Donald Cerrone. The two men have been linked to throw down on a few occasions but never came to be.
If that fight can’t come together, the next man up, according to Helwani, will be Justin Gaethje, who has been lobbying for a fight against Conor for some time now.
Conor McGregor announces at a press conference in Moscow this AM that he has agreed to return to action on Jan. 18 in. T-Mobile. He did not name the opponent. Fight isn’t signed. Two leading candidates are Cerrone and Gaethje. Cerrone is the frontrunner at this time, I’m told.
