McGregor sent social media into overdrive as he dropped a cryptic Tweet about his UFC return. He Tweeted a location and date: “Dublin, December 14th.”

Gaethje, who’s coming off an impressive knockout victory over Donald Cerrone, wasted no time in replying to McGregor’s post.

The UFC contender responded by sharing a DM he sent to McGregor on Instagram, asking the Irishman to fight him in Ireland.

“I’ve been waiting for a reply,” he wrote on Twitter accompanied with an image of the DM he sent which reads: “Fight me in Ireland. I need that chaos in my life.”

Gaethje dismissed the idea of fighting McGregor immediately after stopping Cerrone in the first round of their main event bout at UFC Fight Night.

“The Irishman’s retired. I want a real fighter. I want the winner of Tony and Khabib,” he said in the cage to Daniel Cormier.

“I want to fight Khabib before he’s gone and if Tony wins, nobody’s going to miss that fight.”

But the 30-year-old American changed his tune in the post-fight press conference.

“[Cerrone’s] so tough. That was my friend. I didn’t want to keep punching him, I’ll be honest with you,” he said.

“If the little Irish f**k wants to come back then I’m right here, I’m the perfect guy to bring him back.

“I will never stray from the truth, it had nothing to do with fighting. If he wants to write some b*******… facts are facts; you can’t represent yourself in public like that and expect your child to respect what you do.

“You are a hero to your children and you are a fool if you think they won’t follow in your footsteps.

“To see him treat people like that, do not represent yourself like that, I will never respect you.”
