Yesterday — October 6, 2019 — marked the one-year anniversary of Khabib Nurmagomedov submitting Conor McGregor at UFC 229 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Since then, Khabib has defended his title against Dustin Poirier, while Conor has yet to compete, holding out for a rematch against “The Eagle.”
But that is unlikely to happen, as Khabib has his eyes set on Tony Ferguson. But Khabib also had some sound advice for the fiery Irishman if he wants to run it back.
“Tony Ferguson deserves it more,” Nurmagomedov said at the Synergy Global Forum in St Petersburg via Express.co.uk. “We have to give people what they’ve earned, Ferguson is on a 12-fight win streak, he’s earned it more. Conor needs to stop beating elderly people.”
While Khabib wants Conor to wait in line and earn his rematch he does understand why a second fight between the two men makes sense from a business standpoint.
“Let [McGregor] return and wait in line. But from a [business] development point of view, of course I could fight [McGregor],” he added.
“From a fighting point of view, I’ve passed that stage [with McGregor], I don’t need to prove anything,” said the Dagestani.
“A lot of businessmen here would tell me that I need to fight with him as it would be lucrative
Indeed, their first fight broke the UFC pay-per-view record, so it’s safe to say the the second one will do just as good, if not better. Especially if it happens on Khabib’s home turf of Russia.
