Just a few days removed from the announcement that Conor McGregor would return to face Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 on Jan. 18, 2020, UFC has coincidentally booked a big Lightweight title fight featuring Conor’s biggest rival.
Khabib Nurmagomedov will defend his 155 pound title against Tony Ferguson at an upcoming UFC pay-per-view event on April 18 in Brooklyn, New York.
And the timing is impeccable as Conor is looking to fight the winner of the title fight even though his fight against “Cowboy” is set to take place at 170 pounds.
Nevertheless, Conor is not afraid to go up and down in divisions.
Khabib normally fights only twice a year, so if he beats Ferguson, he likely won’t return until December since he does not fight during Ramadan.
Conor is looking to fight in the summer after UFC 246, then end 2020 with a fight against the 155 pound champion at the end of the year.
While we are all hoping it’s Khabib holding the title by that time in order to set up a big rematch with Conor, a fight between McGregor and Ferguson is big as well.
