Legendary MMA fighter Nick Diaz will return to the UFC Octagon next weekend after almost seven years, and his opponent will be another UFC great – Robbie Lawler. The fight will take place in Las Vegas as part of the UFC 266 event in the 84-pound category. It will be the rematch of the duel from 2004 when Diaz knocked out Lawler. Commentator Joe Rogan, known as a great admirer of the work of the fighter from California, also spoke about the return of the legendary fighter.
“Nick Diaz changed the whole sport of MMA with his physical fitness. He introduced one thing that was new at the time – he didn’t try to hit the rival with 100 percent of his strength, he ‘fired’ the blows with 50 percent of his force. But instead, he hit twice as often and did not allow the rival time to breathe air. Psychologically, it had a very harmful effect on other fighters because their frequent blows constantly interrupted their rhythm, and in that way, Diaz would understand where you are vulnerable. The Diaz brothers, Nick and Nate, are incredibly resilient, they did real triathlons, “said Joe Rogan about Nick Diaz.
Nick Diaz (37) has not fought since January 2015, when he lost to the great Anderson Silva by the decision of the referee, but later that match was annulled because the Brazilian was positive for some illicit substances. Diaz is known for his tireless fighting style, superior physical fitness, and incredible ability to deliver a huge number of blows, putting pressure on the rival. During his professional career that began in 2001, he fought, among others, in the promotions of UFC, WEC, PRIDE, EliteXC, DREAM, Strikeforce.
In professional matches, he has a score of 26 victories (13 KOs, 8 submissions) and 9 defeats, with two canceled fights. Nick is certainly a legend of this sport who will return to the UFC for the third time. He has been in the world of martial arts since he was a child. As a very young boy, he started practicing aikido, karate, and wrestling. He later reached the black belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu. His girlfriend Stephanie, who unfortunately committed suicide, was very important in his life. After her death, he came to her grave every day to tell her that he had become a great fighter, just the way she wanted him to be.
Shortly after his 18th birthday, he recorded his first professional fight in MMA. He defeated Mike Wick. After that, he had a few more great fights to get the UFC’s attention. He fought then in theology with his compatriot from California, Jeremy Jackson. After defeating the mentioned Lawler, there were several defeats by Diego Sanchez, Joe Riggs, Sean Sherk. After that, he lost his place in the strongest organization, to which he later returned. Unfortunately, he earned a five-year suspension given that he was positive for marijuana. He and his brother Nate are big supporters of the legalization of this substance, and, interestingly, they are both vegans. It will be interesting to see how Diaz manages in his new return to the octagon.
