After Conor McGregor announced he’d be returning to action on January 18, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada, fighters from all over started to throw thier names in the proverbial hat for a chance to face him.
That said, there were two men who were at the head of the pack, Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje. UFC president Dana White, however, recently revealed that Cerrone is the man he is looking to line up against “Notorious.”
“We have nothing done, nothing is even close to being done, so I hate to even talk about this stuff and say it, because it might not happen. It might happen, but we’re looking at ‘Cowboy’,” White said in a recent interview with TMZ.
“No. 3 vs. No. 5, Jan. 18 at the T-Mobile (Arena) in Las Vegas.”
Interestingly enough, Gaethje recently defeated “Cowboy,” so you can understand why Justin would feel a bit disheartened if Cerrone gets the big money-fight instead of him.
That said, Conor does have the pick of the litter, so if he opts to go with Cerrone for his much-anticipated comeback fight, then that is what it will be.
