In every sports league, people have given their opinions on who belongs on the Mount Rushmore of that sport.
For those of you who are not aware of what Mount Rushmore is, here’s a brief background:
“Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a massive sculpture carved into Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills region of South Dakota. Completed in 1941 under the direction of Gutzon Borglum and his son Lincoln, the sculpture’s roughly 60-ft.-high granite faces depict U.S. presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. The site also features a museum with interactive exhibits.”
Recently, UFC president Dana White was asked by The Schmo who his four fighters woudl be to grace MMA’s version of Mount Rushmore. And to many’s surprise, he left Conor McGregor out of it.
“I mean if you talk about a Mount Rushmore, where their heads are carved in stone forever, you have to go, Royce Gracie, no brainer, you have to do that,” he said on The Schmozone Podcast.
“Amanda Nunes, it has to be Amanda Nunes the greatest female fighter ever.
“The other two are tough. I would have to go with Jon Jones,” he added. “The guys have never been beaten. What is more amazing about him going undefeated, which is incredibly amazing because very few people do in this sport, is the things he’s done to himself outside the Octagon and he still hasn’t been beat.
“The number four on Mount Rushmore, I guess you have to go with Chuck Liddell. At the point in time, he was the biggest star ever. It’s almost a coin flip between Chuck Liddell and Forrest Griffin.”
Interestingly enough, he also left Ronda Rousey — the women responsible for ushering in women’s MMA into UFC — out as well.
What say you, do you have McGregor on your Mount Rushmore?
