While Conor McGregor has yet to put pen to paper for a return to Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), his longtime rival, Nate Diaz, is set to return from his extended hiatus on August 17, 2019 to face Anthony Pettis at UFC 241.
Ahead of his return, UFC released the full video of McGregor vs Diaz 1, which went down at UFC 196 back in 2016.
McGregor was to initially face then-Lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos for the title, but after “RDA” suffered an injury, Diaz stepped in to fight “Notorious” at Welterweight.
It was an exciting fight to say the least, as both men went at it from the jump, keeping the fight standing predominantly. Conor got the best of Diaz early on, busting up his face to the point of bleeding.
In round two, though, it was clear that McGregor was tired, as the extra weight he put on was visibly bothering him. Diaz, who was used to fighting at 170-pounds took advantage and started pushing the pace and eventually rocked Conor and choked him out.
But, “Notorious” got sweet revenge a few months later at UFC 202 to even the score at one a piece. The two men have been clamoring for a trilogy fight, but it has yet to see the light of day.
