One of the wackiest stoppages occurred earlier tonight at UFC Fight Night 169 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Ion Cutelaba was taking on Magomed Ankalaev. From the beginning, both men had to be separated right before the fight began.
Both came out swinging, with no one really connecting.
But just a few seconds into the fight, it seemed as if Magomed connected on Ion.
As result, Ion seemed to get hurt. Though everyone was confused, as everyone thought Ion was pretending to be hurt.
Or in fight terms, playing rope-a-dope, meaning a fighter acts hurt just to lure in his opponent and go in for the kill.
Still, Ion kept his act going every time Magomed would throw a strike.
Eventually, the referee bought Ion’s act and put a stop to the fight thinking he was really hurt.
Immediately after he put an end to the fight, Ion began to protest the stoppage very angrily, convincing everyone that he was in fact playing possum.
Here is the video evidence.
